There were a couple of pictures of White, he was scateboarding in a few. The reading level was high school. I got the overall impression that it was a school report. Nothing seemed new to me except his age at his career start. I did like the definitions for certain words and the pop quiz at the bottom of the page.
for the next selection I chose Iceland. Was given a brief summery of the island, it's goverment, and the norms of the people.
For maps of the world I chose Brazil. The screen was a map of Brazil subdivided into states? with numbers. There was a box in the map that told you what the numbers were for. I liked the link about Fun Facts about Brazil. This map would be usefull if you had to locate a certain area to find the name, location and some interesting facts about it.
I clicked on Biographies and then clicked on N . Picked the name Nadar, Ralph. Discovered he was a presidental canidate that supported the green ticket. A nice short summary about him.

For a subject to search I chose dogs. Upon clicking on dogs I pulled up a large amount of info. I now know that the Amereican Kennel Club is going to start recognizing mutts as a breed in shows against other mutts and I found this funy. I liked what ws stated about the kennel club trying to help people not buy dogs from puppy mills and how having papers helps that.

Many of the articles in SIRS Discoverer have activities or quizzes. On the right hand side under "Database Features" when you click on "Activities" you see a list of categories--so if you want more quizzes you can check that area out :)
ReplyDeleteYour research on animal welfare is sobering. The information about the Kennel Club recognizing mutts is interesting. I wasn't aware of that information!
Thanks for your comments and for exploring the 2 SIRS resources. We think they expand what most libraries have to offer, especially in the realm of children's magazines.
